This is the second in a series of blog posts about my experience attending the Government Digital Service (GDS) Sprint 19 event in October 2019. Read “the beginning” blog which is dated 6 October 2019
In the afternoon there was a variety of breakout sessions on offer. I attended sessions on diversity and inclusion and the GDS service assessment process. The diversity and inclusion session focussed on ensuring we consider this within our organisation and the teams we work within. The session on the GDS service assessment was very interesting as the Digital Service Standard, which teams are assessed against at the end of key stages within product development, has recently changed. Although we have been through, and passed, a service assessment at the end of the Alpha phase of the Learning Hub development, I picked up some very useful tips from this session in preparation for the assessment at the end of private beta.
The Head of Accessibility for UK Government, Richard Morton, talked about the new public sector website accessibility regulations and what public sector organisations need to do to comply, which was very interesting.
